"ONE+ONE+ONE+ONE+ONE+ONE=ONE"
Let me assure
you that we are nearing the end of our journey through the Acts of the
Apostles!! Hopefully we have all learned a little more about the
beginnings of the early church movement. And for sure, noticed the
many similarities to our current “church”……as much as things change they
still stay the same!!! The issues that concern us today are the
same/similar issues of the church at its beginning. We have tried
over and over again to remind ourselves that our work never ends and the
end result never changes…….to be God’s living presence in the world by
caring for the least, the last and the left out!!!
This week, as
Paul journeys to Ephesus in Acts 19:1-11, we find some words in his letter
to the Ephesians (4:1-16) that resonate with our passage in Acts.
Check out the “new math” for the community of believers in Ephesus--
“ONE+ONE+ONE+ONE+ONE+ONE=ONE”. I know…….we didn’t
learn that in school!!!! But let’s take a look at how it all adds up
on Sunday!! We will definitely learn some “new math”!!! Join us
at 10:00 a.m.!!! ALL ARE WELCOME!!!

PRISON CLOTHING
MINISTRY
Suits
for Success - Update July 2018
As of this month we are 15 months old. Toward our mission of
getting clean clothes in the hands of every parolee that is released from
an Illinois state prison we have given to the prisons over 16,400
garments. This represents between $350,000 - $400,000 at garage sale
prices as stated in the federal income tax regulations. Also, about
10 percent of the clothes that we collect are new and many are designer
clothes.
In the past
year we have drycleaners that are committed to cleaning and pressing
garments. They have done this without compensation at their own cost
of labor, cleaning supplies and personnel time. Some have cleaned as
many as 2,000 garments. The following is a list of participating
drycleaners that are members of Illinois Professional Drycleaners and
Launderers of Illinois: Signature Cleaners on South Werhli in Naperville,
KC Cleaners in Joliet, Greenacres Cleaners in DeKalb, Sugar Grove and
Sycamore, A-1 Cleaners throughout Rockford area, Wilmette Cleaners and
Tailors, and Country Squire Cleaners in Champaign.
We have
received donations from non-profits: Sharing Connections and Silver Cross
Hospital. Churches in the Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian and Roman
Catholic denominations. Plus, the largest church in Illinois Willow
Creek and its 26 churches. We have received plastic hangers from
Dougas Ace in Naperville, over 1000 of them.
The beneficiaries
are the 33 State of Illinois correctional facilities both men’s and women’s
which range from St. Charles to Pickneyville. We have affected the
lives of no less than 4500 men and women who have taken the suits, shirts,
and casual clothes to return to their communities.
Our thanks to
the drycleaners, non-profits, churches and donors who have given these
clothes for the betterment of the parolees. The members of the board
of Suits for Success as well as the volunteers have not received any
compensation for their trips, gifts or other efforts to support our
organization.
Thank you,
Bill Denwood
Volunteer.
