Summer Office
Hours are now in effect. Please call the church office
first if you are planning on coming in.
CONGRATULATIONS
GRADUATES!
THIS Sunday,
June 9th, we will recognize our high
school graduates at both worship services by praying for them
and giving them a gift as a small token of our love for them.
Big thanks to Jane Borgehammar for organizing our
celebration!
Sunday, June
30th is
a fifth Sunday. There is ONE Worship Service at 10am
that day with fellowship to follow.
SUMMER
WORSHIP SERVICES CONTINUE AT 9:00 & 10:30 AM
We
have had many conversations (both in committee meetings and
in the parking lot) about having one (1) worship service
and especially in the summer. So why are we sticking
with our usual two services schedule?
·
We looked at the attendance
records for the past couple of years (a graph is
available upon request) and our numbers show that we
experienced a decrease in attendance when there was one
(1) service, instead of the intended increase.
·
For the persons who "spoke
up," the 1 worship time was equally too early for some
as it was too late for
others. ï‚·
·
While your pastors love to
preach anyway, preparation does not take any less time
if there is 1 service.
·
We will still print the same
number of bulletins and of course the technology does
not change.
·
Most importantly, for the
persons we are trying to reach (as opposed to us who are
already here) having 2 worship experiences gives them
choices. We have watched as families have come at the
"usual" time frame for worship (10:30-10:45)
only to walk away at the discovery that the 1 worship service
was nearly over.
So, in light of our findings, the Administrative
Council decided we will continue with our 2 service format
for the time being. We will continue to have
one (1) worship service on the 5th Sundays following it with
a fellowship meal.

BIBLE
STUDY: THE CURIOSITY CONTINUES
Our desire to explore and attempt to better understand our
sacred text is nigh inextinguishable. That’s why we’re
calling our ongoing bible study, “The Bible for Curious
People.” The class meets on Tuesday
mornings at 10:30am through June 11th.
All are welcome. No prior bible
reading or knowledge or expertise needed. We will all learn
as we go along exploring what the text says, what it leaves
unsaid, what history and tradition tell us about the text,
and how our own experience influences our reading. Having a
study bible really helps. We have some available to borrow,
just ask!
Reading assignment for June 11th:
-Continuing our exploration of lesser known books of the New
Testament, read 2 Timothy.
-Also read the introduction to the book and any other notes
your study bible provides.
Questions to consider:
What questions does this text raise in
you?
Who is God according to this text and how
do we respond to that vision?
How would you sum up the advice Paul
offers Timothy this time?
What threads do you find continuing from 1
Timothy to 2 Timothy?
How do the two letters differ from each
other?
