Learning with a Frog at a Birthday Party
Under an Umbrella

Confirmation Sunday is always one of the best days in the life of the church. Young people publicly profess their faith in God, their desire to follow God in the Way of Jesus, and their willingness to do so as members of this congregation, Woodridge United Methodist Church.

On Confirmation Sunday we experience the future melding into the present. On Confirmation Sunday we sit next to parents, siblings, grandparents, and other family members beaming with pride. On Confirmation Sunday we celebrate commitments made - by the teenagers, sure. But also by their parents and the entire congregation. Everybody has a vital role to play on Confirmation Sunday!

Put all of this together and on Confirmation Sunday we embody hope.

This Sunday, May 5th, is Confirmation Sunday here at Woodridge United Methodist Church. On this special Sunday we have just one worship service at 10:00 a.m.

Plan to be present to experience all this — really, what could be better than witnessing hope embodied?! In his sermon, “Learning With a Frog At a Birthday Party Under an Umbrella,” Pastor Dave will celebrate the unique attributes of this current Confirmation class, while also  considering the example of past Confirmation classes as he explores what is possible for our future together.

Congratulations to TJ, Josh, Veronica, Ethan, and all their families!

Just one worship gathering this Sunday, May 5th at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome!

Woodridge UMC is an open and loving United Methodist community striving to:

Welcoming to all;
Uniting in service toward greater social justice for all;
Moving forward with understanding and acceptance of all peoples;
Creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our purpose is to offer a safe place and community to all races, cultures, religions, genders, sexual identities, ethnicities, age groups and other beliefs.

THE BIBLE FOR CURIOUS PEOPLE CONTINUES ON TUESDAYS
Our desire to explore and attempt to better understand our sacred text is nigh inextinguishable. That’s why we’re calling our ongoing bible study, “The Bible for Curious People.” The class meets on Tuesday mornings at 10:30am through May 28th.

All are welcome. No prior bible reading or knowledge or expertise needed. We will all learn as we go along exploring what the text says, what it leaves unsaid, what history and tradition tell us about the text, and how our own experience influences our reading. Having a study bible really helps. We have some available to borrow, just ask!

Reading assignment for May 7th:
-The Hebrew Scriptures book of the prophet Hosea.
-Whatever introduction to the book your bible provides.

Questions to consider:
Why do you think God asks Hosea to do all those crazy acts?
Have there been times in your life that you did something that only made sense to you?
What questions does this text raise in you?
Who is God according to this text and how do we respond to that vision?

STAMP OUT HUNGER FOOD DRIVE - MAY 11
Saturday, May 11 marks the 27th anniversary of one of America's great days of giving - the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food drive. Each year on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food donations from their customers. These donations go directly to local food pantries to provide food to people in Woodridge/Downers Grove who need help. Participating in this year's Letter Carrier Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is simple. Just leave a non-perishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 11 and your letter carrier will do the rest. Please consider helping in their fight to end hunger, as they celebrate their 27th anniversary year in America's great day of giving.
