Be Prepared and Be Aware

Hearing the words "be prepared" conjures up all kinds of memories for people.  If you have any connection to scouting (Boy or Girl) you know that is the motto to live by.  Or if you are an animated afficianado, you know that "Be Prepared" is one of the songs from the movie "The Lion King".  Or if you grew up around my maternal grandmother, you remember these as a part of her many daily "watchwords".   And we hear them in other places as well.

This week, let's take a look at how they could have been used in our scripture passage in Matthew 25 or in our daily lives.  What does that have to do with our lives as fellow travelers on this faith journey?  Let's see if we can't find some answers.  Join us on Sunday at 9 or 10:30 a.m..  ALL are welcome!

Be part of the discussion at our worship gatherings on Sundays at 9:00 & 10:30 a.m.
All are welcome!

Woodridge UMC is an open and loving United Methodist community striving to:

Welcoming to all;
Uniting in service toward greater social justice for all;
Moving forward with understanding and acceptance of all peoples;
Creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our purpose is to offer a safe place and community to all races, cultures, religions, genders, sexual identities, ethnicities, age groups and other beliefs.

GENERAL CONFERENCE FOLLOW UP

During General Conference 2019 in St. Louis, United Methodist delegates from around the world worshiped together, discussed complex issues and passed legislation regarding same-sex marriage and the ordination of LGBTQ+ clergy. Delegates also adopted legislation allowing a "gracious exit" for congregations wishing to leave the denomination. But on March 6, the Council of Bishops filed a request for a declaratory decision from the Judicial Council on the constitutionality of that disaffiliation petition. Click here for the press release.

Post-Session Debriefings

Bishop Dyck invites you to continue the conversation and join one of three debriefings across the Conference:

·         Saturday, March 30 at 9:30 am - Orland Park: Faith UMC, 15101 S 80th Ave., Orland Park.

·         Saturday, March 30 at 2 pm - Barrington UMC, 98 Algonquin Rd., Barrington.

·         Sunday, March 31 at 3 pm - Oregon UMC, 200 S. 4th St., Oregon

5th Sunday of March
YES, there are 5 Sundays in March.  YES, we will have 1 worship service at 10:00 a.m. on March 31st.  NO, we will not have a meal after worship service.  YES, you are welcome to join Pastor Danita at one of the local establishments for brunch after service.  If you are interested, please let her know.  We will decide where to go based on the number of people.  ALL are welcome to attend.

Pastor Danita's Vestment
Many people have asked about the purple vestment that Pastor Danita wears during the Lent season.  It is a gift from her friend, Reverend J. Jeannette Cooper, retired clergy woman in South Carolina, which Pastor Danita wore as a part of Reverend Cooper's wedding ceremony.  It was handmade in Ghana, Africa and the symbol on the sleeve means "believe in God".  There are only 12 of these vestments which were made exclusively for Reverend Cooper's Sisters in Spirit (S.O.S.) who served communion at the wedding ceremony.

Confirmation Sunday is Sunday, May 5th.  There will be ONE Worship Service at 10am.
