Are We There Yet?

While many have put away the Christmas decorations and moved into the New Year, our journey as Christians reminds us to WAIT!!!  The Wise Men are just now arriving!!!  Don't move on without seeing them pay homage to the Christ-Child and the dilemma about which direction to go!!!

We are sometimes like the small people who generally occupy the back seat of the car and regularly ask "ARE WE THERE YET?"  All through the season of Advent we kept asking 'ARE WE THERE YET?" and then Christmas came and went in a flash and we feel as though we have "arrived" and all is done!  NO!!  NOT YET!!!

Let's slow down just a bit to hear the rest of the story we have waited so long to hear.  Let's press that "pause" button and hear what happens next before we get to Easter!!!

Join us on Sunday at 9 or 10:30 a.m..  There will be communion at both services.  We have an open table and you have an open invitation!!!  ALL are welcome.

Be part of the discussion at our summer worship gathering on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome!

Woodridge UMC is an open and loving United Methodist community striving to:

Welcoming to all;
Uniting in service toward greater social justice for all;
Moving forward with understanding and acceptance of all peoples;
Creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our purpose is to offer a safe place and community to all races, cultures, religions, genders, sexual identities, ethnicities, age groups and other beliefs.

Inquiring Minds Want to Know
Let's begin the year off in the right way!!!  Starting in January we will start a new series in our Wednesday night Bible study class and on Sunday mornings based on the book by Adam Hamilton entitled CREED, What Christians Believe and Why.  We will be offering this as an option for persons who are interested in becoming members of the church as well as everyone else who wants to learn more about what we believe as United Methodists.

JUST HAVE QUESTIONS:  We will try to answer them as best we can.
INTERESTED IN MEMBERSHIP:  Here is your opportunity in a non-threatening way.
WANT TO KNOW WHAT UNITED METHODISTS BELIEVE:  We will try to share that information as well.

A sign-up sheet is available in the narthex.  Beginning January 9th, join us on Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m. (dinner with the youth starts around 6:30) and on Sunday mornings in January.

The Bible for Curious People - a Tuesday Morning Study

Where do we come from…spiritually speaking?
How should we read the scriptures Jesus read?
Why do we Christians call it “The Old Testament?”
How do we deal with the violence in those scriptures?

These are a few of the questions we’ll wrestle with in our bible study on Tuesday mornings beginning January 15th. When it comes to the the Hebrew Scriptures, many of us find ourselves somewhere between wanting to know more than our old Sunday School flannel graphs told us and so frustrated by it we’re tempted to chuck the whole thing away. This study is a place to ask all your questions of the “Old Testament.”

There is no cost for this study, but there will be readings assigned each week — some from the bible and some from other sources to help us better understand what we read in the bible. Materials will be available soon.

Beautiful, confounding, life-giving, scary, profane, inspired…are some of the words we can use to describe that big section at the front of the bible. Why? Let’s find out together on Tuesday mornings from 10:30am-12:00noon, starting January 15, 2019. Sign-up sheet is in the Narthex.

PADS Gratitude
“Alone we can do so little.
TOGETHER WE CAN DO SO MUCH!” - Helen Keller

On December 18 and 19, 2018, Woodridge United Methodist Church (WUMC) served over 60 homeless guests at the Downers Grove Methodist Church.  Through food donations and volunteers who staffed the shelter, it took about the same number of faithful people from our congregation to accomplish this.  There were some “bumps in the road”, but we brought Christ to the homeless guests, and in our midst,  Christ was there!  THANK YOU!  YOU’RE WELCOME!

PLEASE SAVE THE FEBRUARY DATES:   FEBRUARY 19 AND 20, 2019.  A NEW SIGN UP SHEET WILL BE PLACED IN THE NARTHEX BY THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY.
