PHOTOS NEEDED
We would like to decorate our newly named rooms.
Please send copies of any photos of Friendship Church
in the Philippines, Trinity Church in
Joliet, or of Jack Sipley to
the office so that we might make a display. (We will return
your originals). Thank you to those that have
already sent us photos. We are still in need
of pictures for the remaining rooms.
THIRD GRADE BIBLES
Has your child received their bible
yet? We are looking for all kids in 3rd grade or
above that haven't received a bible from the church. It is
tradition in the United Methodist Church for 3rd graders to
receive an engraved bible from the church. Please see Jorie
Manderfield if you are interested in having your child
receive a bible.
FISH VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
& TRAINING
Downers Grove FISH Food Pantry and Community
Services is holding a Volunteer Information and Training
session on Saturday,
October 20th at 10 am at the Community Bank
of Downers Grove. The Downers Grove Area FISH pantry
provides emergency support to those with the greatest need
living in Downers Grove, Darien, Lisle, Woodridge, and
Westmont. We have numerous jobs that always need volunteers.”
Can you do it once a month, every other week, once in a
while, more? Our volunteers work in the food pantry, pick up
food donations, monitor the phone (from home), drive clients
to medical appointments & manage supporters. Register
with Lori at 630.655.8001 no later than October 17th.

GOD'S BLESSING OF OUR 55 YEARS TOGETHER
On
Sunday, October 21st, we will celebrate Woodridge United Methodist
Church's 55th Anniversary - quite a blessing for our church
family and community! To acknowledge our milestone and
the mission of our Church, bring a gift of AT LEAST ONE POND
of non-perishable food to church this Sunday for the West
Suburban Food Pantry, i.e. canned and boxed food items.
Let's make sure that our contributions meet or exceed 55
pound of fodf the the less fortunate of our Woodridge
community.
A WALK
THROUGH AMERICAN HISTORY
On Sunday, October
21st from 1 to 4 pm, experience American
History through the artifacts of local educator and resident
Vann Harris, presented in a self-guided exhibit reflecting
African American history, Native American history and the
story of these cultures within the American Experience at the
Woodridge Public Library. Collection highlights include
items from the Buffalo Soldiers, Tuskegee Airmen, black
pioneers, and black Indians as well as African art and
Mississippi farm tools.
NO
YOGA THIS THURSDAY
Yoga is one
way to create strength, balance, and flexibility in the
body's also a time to practice stillness and develop
patience. Please wear comfortable clothing that ensures privacy
while allowing mobility. Bring a mat or a large towel.
Yoga will run every Thursday through December (except
for those noted). Cost is $5 per person. If you are attending
for the first time, please arrive a few minutes early to sign
a health waiver and meet the instructor. Any questions,

will be no class October 25th, November 22nd and December
27th.
LUAU AND PIG ROAST
Hope’s Front Door is hosting at Luau and Pig
Roast on Friday,
October 26th at 6 pm in Clarendon
Hills. This is a great opportunity to contribute to
programs that change and improve the lives of area families
by providing basic need items and access to employment and
money management programs. Tickets are $50 and include
one drink ticket.
JOURNEYCARE
(HOW TO BE A FRIEND TO SOMEONE WITH A SERIOUS
ILLNESS)
On Tuesday,
October 30 6:30-8:00 pm at Woodridge United
Methodist Church the nonprofit group JourneyCare will be
having an event. Are you currently helping a loved one
with a serious illness? Or are you a caring, compassionate
person meant to volunteer and walk alongside a family during
their end-of-life journey? JourneyCare’s Learning and
Development Department will be offering a free inspiring
program that will help you explore creative ways to provide
support, love, and joy to those with a serious illness.
There will also be a time after the presentation for those
curious about volunteering as a Care Companion or other
behind the scenes roles. JourneyCare is a hospice and
palliative care agency that serves Illinois 10 counties in
the Chicago area.
ALL CHURCH CLEAN UP
Come out and help spruce up the outside of the
church on Saturday
November 10th at 9:00 am. Bring work
gloves, rakes and any of your favorite yard tools. Once
you are here, look around the property for a trustee to be
assigned a job.
SAVE THE DATE!!
Mark your calendars! It’s official!
Our church conference date for 2018 is Saturday, December
8, 2018. The Staff-Parish Committee
will meet at 9:30 am and the church conference will begin at
10:00 am. All reports from committee chairs are due
November 8th.
THANKSGIVING FOOD BOXES AND TURKEYS FOR
TRINITY UMC
Please sign-up in the Narthex to donate food
boxes and turkeys for families at our sister church, Trinity
United Methodist in Joliet. Your donation provides a
holiday meal for a family who would otherwise do
without. Pick up a list of items to include in each
food box at the Outreach table in the Narthex. Turkeys
and food boxes are due back in the church kitchen by 5:00 Friday,
November 16th.
THE
MITTEN TREE IS CALLING FOR YOUR DONATIONS
The mitten tree is available in the Narthex to
accept your donations of children’s mittens, gloves, warm
hats and scarves. The donations are going to Woodridge School
District 68. They give them out to children who don’t have
appropriate gear for the winter weather. We’ll be harvesting
the tree a couple of times with first harvest coming before
Thanksgiving. Please donate as you can.
TEDDY BEARS NEEDED!
The West Suburban Community Pantry sets up a
Christmas tree for the children of their clients. On
this tree, we hang teddy bears (or other stuffed animals) and
small toys (individual toy cars, Yo-yos, Play-doh, etc…) and
each child gets to pick one off of the tree.
