"Fixing Hearts, Not Just Houses"

On June 23rd, 17 youth and adults left behind the comfort of their homes, their families, their friends, and their routines to spend the week sleeping on a floor, with almost no control over when they eat, shower, work, and rest. And that is easily the least impressive part of our week.

God's Holy Spirit is at work in and through the people of Baton Rouge. We simply had the privilege of being a small piece of what is already happening there. We got to meet, talk with, and help some extraordinary people.

How did we see God at work?

Who did we meet and why were we so moved by their stories?

What is so special about Baton Rouge?

In order to hear our reflections on these questions and our other experiences from our mission trip, you need to be in worship this Sunday, July 8th when the youth and adults proclaim their message, “Fixing Hearts, Not Just Houses."

Worship gatherings this summer are Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. All are welcome!

Woodridge UMC is an open and loving United Methodist community striving to:

Welcoming to all;
Uniting in service toward greater social justice for all;
Moving forward with understanding and acceptance of all peoples;
Creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our purpose is to offer a safe place and community to all races, cultures, religions, genders, sexual identities, ethnicities, age groups and other beliefs.

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR THE WEST SUBURBAN FOOD PANTRY

Our Church, Woodridge United Methodist Church (WUMC), partners with the West Suburban Food Pantry "Food Pantry", located just off 63rd Street, to provide food for the economically disadvantaged members of our community. WE ARE ASKING EACH MEMBER OF WUMC TO BRING A DONATION OF NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS TO OUR CHURCH AT LEAST ONCE, IF NOT EACH WEEK, DURING THE MONTH OF JULY 2018.

The Food Pantry is in great need of the following:

- Canned Tomato Products

- Canned Tuna and Chicken

- Pancake Mix and Syrup

- Canned Fruits and Vegetables

- Peanut Butter and Jelly

Church donations having fallen off this year, i.e. our Church’s donations, thus far in 2018, are 43 percent below what we contributed in 2017. PLEASE HELP US MAKE UP GROUND BY BRINGING YOUR DONATIONS TO CHURCH AND PLACING THEM IN OR NEAR THE BASKET THAT SITS ON THE FLOOR ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE MIDDLE ENTRANCE TO OUR SANCTUARY. THANK YOU!

PRISON CLOTHING MINISTRY

Our Outreach Committee is pleased to announce that we are now able to partner with other participating area churches in the Suits for Success Program.  This non-profit, volunteer organization which was founded by Bill Denwood of Community Methodist Church in Naperville provides, at no charge, gently used clothes to parolees throughout the State of Illinois that are suitable for interviews with prospective employers.   Prior to this time, WUMC’s donations served only the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln, Illinois.

The Suits for Success Program also partners with area dry-cleaners which serve as drop-off points and clean and press the clothes for free.  The participating dry cleaner closest to us is Signature Cleaners, Steve Hirmer, Owner, on Werhli in Naperville.  You may drop off your donations directly with Steve or bring them to WUMC and place in the boxes in the hallway which leads from the Narthex to Fellowship Hall.  PLEASE NO SHOES!

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!!!
