"Dreaming With The Team"
Last Sunday,
Pastor Dave brought up some old memories about the 1992 Olympic Dream Team
which consisted of basketball’s greatest players….Magic Johnson, Larry Bird
and our own Michael Jordan!!! A basketball team filled with talented
men who were unstoppable on those basketball courts, beating opponent after
opponent to eventually win the gold medal in the Olympics that year.
Following the Olympics, they returned to their respective teams only to
continue to rise to become the greatest basketball players in
history.
Pastor Dave
reminded those present that we make up the modern day DREAM TEAM for God’s
church. While we have many gifted players on the team, there are
still some openings to make us better. There are still places where
we lack the kind of leadership needed to make a greater impact on our
world. We need you to do a little “DREAMING WITH THE TEAM”
this Sunday. During worship, you will have an opportunity to
write down your dream for the future of Woodridge United Methodist
Church. Your idea will then be shared with our Vision Team/Ad
Council. No dream is to great or too small. YOU are a part of
the WUMC Dream Team. Let’s do some dreaming together.
See you on
Sunday at 10:00 a.m.. ALL are welcome to join us!
Woodridge UMC
is an open and loving United Methodist community striving
to:
Welcoming
to all;
Uniting in service toward greater social justice for all;
Moving forward with understanding and acceptance of all
peoples;
Creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation
of the world.
Our purpose is
to offer a safe place and community to all races, cultures, religions,
genders, sexual identities, ethnicities, age groups and other
beliefs.
Pastor Dave's
Blog
Over the last
four weeks or so, we've talked with some frequency about the deliberations,
statements, and counter-statements stemming from the United Methodist
Church's 2016 General Conference. That General Conference appointed a
Commission on the Way Forward. After two years of work, that Commission
sent proposals to the Council of Bishops. That Council made a statement
about its report. Then came the counter-statements, clarifying statements,
and a Judicial Council ruling.
If you're not
even a little confused by all that...I applaud you. Because I have trouble
following it all. In case you do too, I'm attempting to put the original
documents here for you. Read on. . .

will return in October.
Please pray for the youth mission trip.

Saturday, June 23rd, 12 students and five adults leave WUMC for a
week of work in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While there, they will partner with
Revive225, a ministry of First United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge, to do
home repair such as roofing, painting, repairing walls, or building ramps
for families in need. They will also get to experience South Louisianan
food and culture. So please pray for them as they continue our
congregation’s journey with Jesus by following his command to love God and
love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Specifically, please pray for:
Margot, Veronica, Ryan, Jack, Jake, Lia, Gillian, Jaidyn, Krista, Amanda,
Rachel, Sarah, Glenn, Kevin, Nikole, Heather, and Pastor Dave.

PRISON CLOTHING
MINISTRY
Our Outreach
Committee is pleased to announce that we are now able to partner with
other participating area churches in the Suits for Success Program.
This non-profit, volunteer organization which was founded by Bill Denwood
of Community Methodist Church in Naperville provides, at no charge, gently
used clothes to parolees throughout the State of Illinois that are suitable
for interviews with prospective employers. Prior to this time,
WUMC’s donations served only the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln,
Illinois.
The Suits for
Success Program also partners with area dry-cleaners which serve as
drop-off points and clean and press the clothes for free. The
participating dry cleaner closest to us is Signature Cleaners, Steve
Hirmer, Owner, on Werhli in Naperville. You may drop off your donations
directly with Steve or bring them to WUMC and place in the boxes in the
hallway which leads from the Narthex to Fellowship Hall. THANKS TO
