"Building the Team"

Over the last several weeks, the story of the early church has been unfolding before us.  We have been walking through the Acts of the Apostles and Paul’s first journey to the newly established Christian churches, only to discover that many of the challenges they faced are the same (or very similar) to the ones we face in 2018.  Questions around leadership, why we should believe in the first place, who to believe and the age-old question of who is “in” and who should be kept “out”.  Ancient struggles that have continued into the contemporary.

But over the last couple of weeks, we have been reminded that we are the DREAM TEAM for the future of the church.  How do we face these continuing challenges?  What should we do to continue to share the Good News about God’s love to future generations?  You were invited to write those dreams down last Sunday.  But, now what happens to them?  Who puts them into action?

Good question!!!  Maybe we should spend some time talking about that this week as we think about BUILDING THE TEAM.  Who is, in fact, on the “inside” and who should be eliminated?  Where do we need to draw the lines or who should be invited in to help broaden our dream?  Let’s see what we come up with together!  See  you on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.!  ALL are welcome!

Woodridge UMC is an open and loving United Methodist community striving to:

Welcoming to all;
Uniting in service toward greater social justice for all;
Moving forward with understanding and acceptance of all peoples;
Creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our purpose is to offer a safe place and community to all races, cultures, religions, genders, sexual identities, ethnicities, age groups and other beliefs.

THANK YOU from Susan Blanchard

Dear loved ones at WUMC:

Imagine my surprise when the doorbell rang in my new home – and the FedEx man was there with a beautiful PRAYER plant from you! You are responsible for the Tuesday tears (believe me – there are still tears every day). Thank you for the kind words written on the note.

It has been wonderful to be back "home" where Jack and I grew up….in some ways it makes me feel young again to be going back to the old places….

Please tell everyone we arrived safely, as did all our belongings. I am happy to say that there are cardinals and blue jays singing to me – they bring me joy in the morning with my coffee.

"Thirty-eight years of singing and praying..

 Thirty-eight years – it goes without saying

 That I will miss you all at WUMC."

Love,

Susan

Summer Worship Schedule 2018

For June 3rd through September 30th, we will have one single worship service at 10 am.  The regular two service schedule will return in October.

Please pray for the youth mission trip.

On Saturday, June 23rd, 12 students and five adults leave WUMC for a week of work in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While there, they will partner with Revive225, a ministry of First United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge, to do home repair such as roofing, painting, repairing walls, or building ramps for families in need. They will also get to experience South Louisianan food and culture. So please pray for them as they continue our congregation’s journey with Jesus by following his command to love God and love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Specifically, please pray for: Margot, Veronica, Ryan, Jack, Jake, Lia, Gillian, Jaidyn, Krista, Amanda, Rachel, Sarah, Glenn, Kevin, Nikole, Heather, and Pastor Dave.

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR THE WEST SUBURBAN FOOD PANTRY

Our Church, Woodridge United Methodist Church (WUMC), partners with the West Suburban Food Pantry "Food Pantry", located just off 63rd Street, to provide food for the economically disadvantaged members of our community. WE ARE ASKING EACH MEMBER OF WUMC TO BRING A DONATION OF NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS TO OUR CHURCH AT LEAST ONCE, IF NOT EACH WEEK, DURING THE MONTH OF JULY 2018.

The Food Pantry is in great need of the following:

- Canned Tomato Products

- Canned Tuna and Chicken

- Pancake Mix and Syrup

- Canned Fruits and Vegetables

- Peanut Butter and Jelly

Church donations having fallen off this year, i.e. our Church’s donations, thus far in 2018, are 43 percent below what we contributed in 2017. PLEASE HELP US MAKE UP GROUND BY BRINGING YOUR DONATIONS TO CHURCH AND PLACING THEM IN OR NEAR THE BASKET THAT SITS ON THE FLOOR ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE MIDDLE ENTRANCE TO OUR SANCTUARY. THANK YOU!

PRISON CLOTHING MINISTRY

Our Outreach Committee is pleased to announce that we are now able to partner with other participating area churches in the Suits for Success Program.  This non-profit, volunteer organization which was founded by Bill Denwood of Community Methodist Church in Naperville provides, at no charge, gently used clothes to parolees throughout the State of Illinois that are suitable for interviews with prospective employers.   Prior to this time, WUMC’s donations served only the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln, Illinois.

The Suits for Success Program also partners with area dry-cleaners which serve as drop-off points and clean and press the clothes for free.  The participating dry cleaner closest to us is Signature Cleaners, Steve Hirmer, Owner, on Werhli in Naperville.  You may drop off your donations directly with Steve or bring them to WUMC and place in the boxes in the hallway which leads from the Narthex to Fellowship Hall.  PLEASE NO SHOES!

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!!!
